City of Erlanger Road Safety Week

The City of Erlanger, in tandem with the Department of Public Safety, is very pleased to jointly announce a comprehensive plan that addresses the concerns that our residents have voiced about e-scooter safety, particularly from our younger residents on roadways and pedestrian sidewalks in our city limits. Our community members have noticed a pattern of people operating e-scooters without helmets, while simultaneously using electronic devices and not yielding the right of way to pedestrians on sidewalks.

Mayor Jessica Fette has proclaimed the week of November 2-8, 2025 as “Road Safety Week” in the City of Erlanger, and our city intends to hold future recognitions in the first week of November each year . While e-scooters are a driving force behind the initiative, it is a helpful reminder to anyone operating a motor vehicle to do a self-inventory of their driving habits to make sure our community is as safe as possible.

“A primary reason why Erlanger is such an appealing place to live, work and visit is the ease with which we can get outside and walk around, ride our bicycles or e-scooters and drive around to explore our beautiful surroundings,” said Mayor Fette. “But it’s imperative that we work together to do so responsibly and make Erlanger the safest community we can possibly be.”

The city will work with the Erlanger-Elsmere and Kenton County schools and St. Henry High School to promote e-scooter safety with messaging across various school channels and in-person at special events. The education will focus on wearing helmets, putting cell phones away, obeying traffic laws, yielding to pedestrians and communicating effectively when passing, not driving impaired, having only one rider per bike and riding in a bike lane if it’s available.

The City of Erlanger will also produce and distribute a series of educational social media videos that air on city platforms spotlighting best practices for safely operating e-scooters, and the city is working with the Brain Injury Alliance of Northern Kentucky to finalize a date for a free helmet giveaway at the City Building at 505 Commonwealth Avenue in Erlanger. Our city will communicate details of the helmet giveaway once finalized.

“While November 2-8 is Road Safety Week in Erlanger, I’d like to encourage all of our residents and visitors to make our interactions between pedestrians, bicyclists, scooter operators and motor vehicle drivers a focus every day and week of the year so Erlanger can be a place where we can enjoy being outside safely,” Fette said.
