Catholic Charities will host a free training for Mental Health First Aid later this month. Mental Health First Aid is a national program that aims to provide non-professionals with go-to resources and strategies to employ in the event they encounter someone going through a crisis.

“This vital initiative is designed to equip community members with practical tools to recognize and respond to signs of mental health challenges,” according to a press release from Catholic Charities. “Mental Health First Aid is a training that reduces stigma, teaches participants how to identify warning signs and symptoms and prepares ‘first aiders’ to use a five-step action plan when encountering someone in a mental health crisis.”

Teachers, parents and professionals with backgrounds outside of mental health are encouraged to sign up for the free training.

The training will take place on July 22 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Catholic Charities office on Church Street in Covington.

You can sign up by filling out Catholic Charities’ online contact form by clicking here.
