Nominations are reader-submitted or recommended by our sports team. Our Team of the Week program honors all local sports at all levels, whether it’s youth or adult-oriented recreation, high school or college, professional or amateur.
The new school year has added to the awards program. OrthoCincy Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine and LINK nky are excited to expand in addition to the weekly winners, the program will be including three winners for Team of the Season and one overall winner for Team of the Year for the 2024-25 sports seasons.
New this year for the program is the addition of the Team of the Season (TOTS) and Team of the Year (TOTY) awards. Sports seasons are considered fall, winter and spring for the purpose of this awards program. At the conclusion of each sports season, an overall TOTS winner will be chosen from all previous TOTW winners for that season. Their school will also receive a $500 scholarship to be presented to the athlete of their choice at the end of the school year.
Finally, the program culminates by selecting one TOTY from the three TOTS award winners. Online and print articles will again be published, a large commemorative plaque will be presented and the school will receive an additional $500 scholarship to be presented to the athlete of their choice at the end of the school year.
The call for nominations, voting and winning announcement for each will follow the same format as the TOTW.

COOPER GIRLS LACROSSE

The Cooper girls lacrosse team went 2-0 last week with wins over Dixie Heights and Atherton to improve to 5-5 on the season.
In the two victories they outscored the opponent 36-10. In the 18-3 win over Dixie, Talia Yurjevich, Madison Reinert, Samantha Sandefur and Emily Forbes had three goals apiece. Reinert had three assists, Sandefur with two while Maggie Milburn and Jessica Matusik combined for seven saves.
In the 18-7 win over Atherton, Sandefur had six goals with four assists, Lucy Hermann and Forbes with three goals each. Milburn had 17 saves in net.
BISHOP BROSSART TRACK AND FIELD

The Mustangs dominated the Campbell County Championships on April 23, the girls with 241 points and the boys with 170 points.
On top of the dominating team performances, quite a few won their events. They were:

BELLEVUE BASEBALL

The Tigers went 4-1 last week to improve their record to 10-11. They defeated Dayton, Newport twice and Nicholas County.
Carson Scott pitched a three-hit shutout in the 4-0 win over Dayton on April 22, striking out 12 and did so in 84 pitches. TJ Sorrell and Scott did the damage at the plate with two runs driven in apiece.
Bellevue then outscored Dayton 34-1 on April 23 and 25, they collected 13 hits on the 23rd, Jacob Berning and Tristan Woodyard standing out with three hits apiece, Berning with four RBI, Woodyard with three. In the 18-1 win on the 25th, Kameron Stokes had four RBI, Kayne Ross with three.
After losing to Bethlehem 11-3 on April 26, the Tigers bounced back with a 10-7 victory over Nicholas County. Berning had three hits with two RBI, Jacob Bramel, Scott and Sorrell with two hits apiece, Sorrell with three RBI, Bramel and Scott with two each.
HIGHLANDS BASEBALL

The Bluebirds are on fire as they’ve won 13 of 14, including a 3-0 week last week with wins over Lloyd Memorial and twice over Scott.
After starting the season 3-4, Highlands is now 16-5 and one of the best hitting teams in the state. They’re hitting .356 as a team and scoring 8.1 runs per game. Those marks are good for sixth and 23rd in the state. Of players that have 20 or more at-bats on the season, nine of them are hitting over .300 led by Brooks Hendrix with a .528 batting average. Adam Forton is hitting .429 with Nolan Schwalbach and Iain Carner both hovering around .400 at .397 and .396, respectively.
Pitching has been solid, too. They post a 2.44 ERA as a team led by Jacob Robinson, Forton and Garrett Wiggins, all with sub-2.00 ERA’s and at least 20.1 innings logged. The three are a combined 9-2 on the season with 119 strikeouts in 73.2 innings.
BEECHWOOD SOFTBALL

Beechwood went 3-0 last week as they inch closer to .500, sitting at 7-8 on the season as of April 28. They brought the bats out in the three contests with 52 runs scored in the three wins over Dayton, Holmes and Bellevue.
Annette Cento and Hannah Penny had multiple-hit games in all three contests while Cento went 3-0 in the circle. Sophia Preston had three hits, one of them a homerun in the win over Dayton on April 22 while Cento and Taryn Frazier drove in two runs apiece. Abby Smith and Willow Million also drove in two runs each.
Penny had five RBI in the win over Holmes on April 23, Cento and Addy Schilling with two runs driven in apiece while Cento allowed two hits and struck out eight. The 3-0 week was capped off with a 14-4 win over Bellevue, Penny driving in three runs while Cento collected three hits, two of them doubles.
COOPER SOFTBALL

A 3-0 week for the Cooper softball team helped snap a six-game losing streak.
More importantly, two of the wins were 33rd District wins as they position themselves for the district tournament with a 2-1 district record and tied with Ryle for the top seed in district play.
In their 13-0 victory over Conner on April 21, Lily Spraker pitched a three-hit shutout with five strikeouts. Kinley Johnson had three RBI, Emory Sullivan, Grace Cline and Desiree Mack with two each as all nine Lady Jags who came to the plate collected a hit, finishing with 14 as a team. They followed the 13-0 win with a 13-1 win over Dixie Heights on April 22. Johnson had three hits with a double and two stolen bases, Audrey Stith also with a multi-hit game with a double and a walk. Stith and Kaitlyn Furnish each drove in two runs apiece.
Capping off the 3-0 week was a 6-5 victory over Boone County. Ainsley Scroggie had three hits and two RBI, Sadie James had two hits and three stolen bases and Spraker allowed just one earned run in her complete game effort, striking out six.
Cooper now sits at 8-14 on the season.
