A groundbreaking date has been set for a new heritage center at the historic Dinsmore Homestead Museum in Boone County.

Dinsmore Homestead, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the family’s history, is embarking on a $1.5 capital campaign to fund the construction of the 6,000-square-foot heritage center. The groundbreaking is slated for April 2 at 3:30 p.m.

Located at 5656 Burlington Pike, the Dinsmore Homestead Museum offers several tours that explore the lives of the namesake family and their historical impact. The museum was recently recognized by the National Park Service’s Underground Railroad Network to Freedom.

The addition will be able to host over 5,000 students annually and offer versatile spaces for events like weddings and community gatherings.
