The Fort Thomas Education Foundation awarded $44,000 to district teachers who submitted grant requests.

Every year, the nonprofit foundation awards money to teachers in order to enhance educational attainment and excellence throughout the district. The money distributed by the foundation is donated by families and community partners.

“These grants are vital in helping our schools stand out and excel,” foundation President Frank Twehues said in a news release. “One of the things that I am most excited about is the trend of student-led grant requests from our schools. In reviewing these requests, one thing stands above the rest – our District is creating a future generation of empathetic and civic-minded leaders.”

This year’s grant recipients are:

  • Highlands High School and Middle School– Drones, String Program Improvements, Band Instruments, Photo Lab Equipment, Sensory Room Updates, and Response Technology
  • Johnson Elementary – Inclusive Equipment
  • Moyer Elementary – Preschool Enrichment Programs

Beth Brubaker, a journalism teacher at Highlands High School, thanked the foundation for its grant donation. The journalism program received a $10,098 grant for photo lab equipment.

“Thank you to the FTEF for once again funding this for our programs,” Brubaker said in the release. “We truly appreciate the investment!”

Over the course of its 20-year history, the foundation has funded over $1 million in teacher grants.
