Emily Horseman has only been with the Fort Wright Police Department for a little over a year, and she has received accolades from her community. Officer Horseman came across a neglected, emaciated dog at a Fort Wright home in late October. She immediately took the dog, Ripley, to an emergency vet and paid for her treatment out of pocket.
Horseman continues to foster Ripley. Fort Wright community members have been quick to donate to her cause. Donations covered Ripley’s food, medicine and fostering costs for the next few months.
The heartwarming story of Horseman’s kindness has made its way around local media. As of this afternoon, there has been a development in finding justice for Ripley.
Officers Horseman and Metzger spoke to the owner of the house, who evicted the tenants that owned Ripley. They likely abandoned their dog at the house. They have positively identified the two adults who were living in the house.
On Wednesday, the Fort Wright Police Department signed an arrest warrant for these two individuals on the charge of cruelty to an animal in the second degree. Their whereabouts are currently unknown.
“We’ll track them down,” Chief Jonathan Colwell said. “We’ll find them and hold them accountable.”
Mayor Dave Hatter is also impressed by the outpouring of support from the community.
“Lots of people wanted to help,” Hatter said. “Fort Wright is a very special place.”
