The Kenton County Planning Commission will hold a public forum related to the Kenton County comprehensive plan on Thursday, Sept. 5.
The county comprehensive plan is required to be updated every five years. It serves as a set of recommendations for zoning and development throughout the county. Although many cities have their own zoning regulations, the comprehensive plan serves as a sort of template for cities to follow to ensure development cohesion between the county’s many jurisdictions.
Public service agencies and organizations also use comprehensive plans when setting policies, and the plan itself touches nearly every aspect of public life from transit to housing to economics to the environment.
The meeting in September follows several months of public brainstorming and feedback. You can review the plan at this link.
Some notable focal points of the plan based on public comments thus far:
- Strategies for a mixture of housing options
- Strengthening public transit for all users
- Access to childcare
- Resiliency and recovery strategies
- Consideration of the impacts of economic development
- Roadway safety
- Balancing development and environmental preservation
- Streamlining regulations and processes for planning
- Specific recommendations for particular areas
There are three ways the public can leave feedback on the draft plan. They can email comments to kcpc@pdskc.org. They can mail written comments to the following address: KCPC, 1840 Simon Kenton Way, Suite 3400, Covington, KY 41011.
Lastly, they can attend the meeting on Thursday, Sept. 5, at the Kenton County Government Center in Covington. The meeting begins at 6:15 p.m.
