Former US Senator Jim Bunning endorsed the gubernatorial campaign of Agriculture Commissioner James Comer.
“I fully support and endorse James Comer for Governor of Kentucky,” Bunning said in a written statement released by Comer’s campaign. “He has consistently demonstrated his ability to fight government waste and abuse, while implementing economic growth initiatives. Kentucky faces many challenges that will require proven leadership. James Comer is the candidate in this race that is ready to lead on day one.”
Northern Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie has also endorsed Comer, who is running with State Sen. Chris McDaniel (R-Taylor Mill) as his lieutenant governor running mate. Comer currently faces Louisville businessman Hal Heiner and former Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Will T. Scot in May’s Republican primary.
“I am humbled to have Senator Bunning’s support,” Comer said in a statement. “For years, he has held the bullhorn for conservative values and time has proven that he was right on so many issues. He established the Republican Party in Northern Kentucky and paved the way for many Republicans in that region and throughout the Commonwealth.”
Bunning is a Major League Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher who served on the Ft. Thomas city council, then Congress, and then two terms in the US Senate.
James Comer will officially file to run for Governor on Thursday.
