At its June 24 city council meeting, Fort Mitchell city government donated $5,898 to DCCH Center for Children and Families to fix a shelter roof on their festival grounds. Police Chief Rob Nader presented Denise Govan, president & CEO of DCCH Center with the donation check.

The DCCH Center recently celebrated their 175th anniversary in Fort Mitchell. The organization has maintained a close relationship with the city throughout their history.

Last year, the city held their Hero Night Festival, an event celebrating first responders, at the DCCH Center fairgrounds. During the celebration, Nader noticed the “dilapidated” state of a shelter roof.

“After some discussion, it was decided to form a crew to lead the Raise the Roof Golf Outing,” Govan said. “The Golf Outing was held earlier in the summer and was a sellout.”

The Raise the Roof Golf Outing took place in May of this year. The city charged a registration fee for all participating teams and individuals. Local companies also had the opportunity to pay to sponsor the main entry or various holes on the course.

LINK asked Govan what the festival grounds mean to DCCH.

“The DCCH Festival Grounds have been home to many community offerings,” Govan said. “First and foremost, the annual Diocesan Catholic Children’s Home Summer Festival which was a community and family fundraiser for many years, to raise funds for the Children’s Home.”

Now, the DCCH Center fairgrounds are home to the DCCH Center Flea Market, the annual Hero Night Festival, and Blessed Sacrament’s annual corn roast. This year, the corn roast will take place on Friday, August 9.

Mayor Jude Hehman explained Fort Mitchell’s side of the relationship to LINK.

“DCCH is an integral part of our city and region, providing invaluable support and services to those in need,” Hehman said. “We have a great relationship with the organization. Their dedication and commitment to improving lives embod[ies] the spirit of Fort Mitchell.”
