Two retiring teachers were honored at Thursday night’s Walton-Verona Independent School Board of Education meeting.

Jackee Floyd and Eric Morwessel received trophies at the meeting.

Floyd was the bookkeeper at the high school for 10 years and has worked as part of the registrar’s office for 11 years.

“It has been very special here due to it being like a second home,” Floyd said. “It is hard to leave, but it is time.”

Morwessel was principal of Walton Verona Middle School for nine years.

“It is obvious that Eric loves kids,” said Superintendent Matt Baker. “He knows every kid in the building by name, and with 550 kids that is a tall order. Everyone is going to miss him.”

Jason Frilling will be the new middle school principal.

The board also gave out trophies to two schools for attendance. The high school received a trophy for the highest attendance for the 9th and 10th months of the school year, with a 96.11% attendance rate. The middle school claimed the highest yearly attendance average with a 94.96% attendance rate.

This is the sixth year in a row the middle school has won that award.
