Host Dixie Heights opened the season with a win over Highlands Bluebirds, pulling away in the second half.

Senior guard Jalynn Brooks led the Colonels with 12 points and seven rebounds with freshman Asia Carner making her varsity debut with 11 points. Bella Crawford added seven points and eight rebounds.

Highlands struggled at the free-throw line, making just 5-of-12 attempts. Saylor Macke led the Bluebirds with 10 points, making three 3-pointers and Marissa Green scored nine.

Dixie Heights travels to Grant County on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Highlands does not play again until Friday in the Donna Murphy Classic at 7 p.m. against Campbell County.

Conner 53, Walton-Verona 45

Cougars point guard Anna Hamilton scored 23 points in the season-opener for both teams.

Conner made nine three-pointers in the win. Ava Brown made three on her way to 11 points and Hamilton hit two.

Walton-Verona had Cam Christy and Elin Logue score 10 points each to lead the way. Braylin Terrell added nine as Walton-Verona struggled at the free-throw line making just 7-of-17.

Conner plays Notre Dame in the Donna Murphy Classic at Newport on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Walton-Verona plays host to Eminence on Friday at 6 p.m.

Simon Kenton 71, Owen County 49

The Pioneers opened the season with a convincing road 8th Region win.

Brynli Pernell dazzled, making seven three-pointers on her way to 29 points. Haylie Webb followed with 18 points and Rylie Flynn scored eight.

Simon Kenton travels to Ryle on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Cooper 55, Butler 38

The Jaguars hit the road to open the season and came back from Louisville with a win. They opened the game on a 25-2 run and coasted from there in a matchup of preseason top 10 teams, Cooper ranked No. 4, Butler coming in at No. 9 and one of the favorites to come out of the 6th Region.

Logan Palmer led Cooper with 17 points and added five rebounds. Liz Freihofer poured in 16 points to go with four assists, Haylee Noel chipping in 10 points with five rebounds and four assists while Bella Deere had nine points and eight rebounds.

Cooper takes on Assumption on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Hoops for Harvest Classic at Dixie Heights.

Campbell County 67, Bracken County 38

The Camels opened their season with a sound victory in Brooksville.

Izzy Jayasuriya led the Camels with 19 points, making 10-of-12 free throws. Lilliann Enzweiler and Madeleine Barbian scored nine points each with Faith Whitford scoring eight.

Campbell County takes on Highlands (0-1) on Friday in the Donna Murphy Classic at Newport.

The Jaguars opened the season with a 9th Region win on the road.

Andy Johnson led the Jaguars with 30 points. Evan Blackburn and Chris Rodriguez scored 12 points each with Yamil Rondon scoring nine.

St. Henry saw eight different players score in its season-opener. Drew Flanagan led the way with 13 points and Andrew Reis scored 12.

Cooper takes on Delaware Christian (Ohio) in the Ohio Valley Hoops Classic at Mason High School in Ohio on Sunday at 2 p.m. St. Henry plays host to Conner on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Beechwood 60, Bracken County 44

The host Tigers took care of the Polar Bears for the first win with Ross Hart as head coach. Jack Sullivan led Beechwood with 26 points and nine rebounds with Carson Blackburn scoring 15.

Beechwood (1-1) plays at Scott on Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Covington Catholic 87, Western Heights College (Australia) 40

The Colonels posted a second win in as many days.

Brady Hussey led the Colonels (2-0) with 25 points, making 11-of-14 shots. Center Caden Miller posted his second straight double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds and Athens McGillis scored 18 points to go with four assists.

CovCath plays at Great Crossing on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Ryle 81, South Oldham 71

The Raiders picked up a home victory to open up their season as four hit double figures.

Landon Lorms led the way with 20 points, Evan Smith with 16, Grady Reynolds 14 and Logan Verax chipping in 10.

Ryle will look to make it 2-0 when they host Holy Cross on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Calvary Christian 54, Milford Christian (Ohio) 34

Race Zachary led three Cougars in double figures with 19 points as they opened their season with a victory.

Peyton Morris added 18, Collin Duty with 12. Zachary also pulled down 14 rebounds.

Calvary Christian returns to action on Thursday at home against Bishop Brossart in a 37th District matchup. Tip is 7:30 p.m.
