A Burlington man has been sentenced to five years in prison for charges connected to the rape and sodomy of a teenage girl in 2022.
Circuit Court Judge Richard Brueggemann handed down the sentence to Michael G. Ozepy in Boone County Circuit Court on Thursday in accordance with a plea agreement.
“Prior to the offer in this case being made, I did speak several times with the victim’s mother and then another conversation with the victim and her mother about the offer – and they were in agreement with the offer that was made,” First Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for the 54th Judicial Circuit Jason Hiltz said during the proceedings.
Brueggemann listed charges of four counts of rape in the third degree; six counts of sodomy in the third degree; unlawful transaction with a minor in the second degree; and unlawful transaction with a minor in the third degree.
“These sentences are to run concurrent to one another for, in effect, one sentence of five years in prison,” Brueggemann said.
The court also stipulated Ozepy must register as a sex offender for life.
Deputies received a sexual assault report on Nov. 25, 2022, where a teenage female victim reported she was sexually assaulted a day prior, as well as other assaults by the same suspect dating back to September 2022, according to a Boone County Sheriff’s Office media release.
The victim identified Ozepy as the alleged perpetrator, with an investigation revealing Ozepy provided the victim with alcohol and marijuana before raping and/or sodomizing her, according to the Sheriff’s Office media release.
