A residential water line project along portions of Woolper Road and Snyder Lane in Petersburg is slated to begin next month, Boone County officials said.
In March 2022, the Boone County Fiscal Court awarded DLZ Engineers a contract to design the water line in accordance with the county’s Rural Water Expansion program, Boone County Assistant County Administrator/County Engineer Rob Franxman said.
“The design and permitting was finished in June of this year,” Franxman said. “The project was advertised for bid on July 26; four bids were received, with Howell Contractors being the low bidder at a price of $1,985,085.”
The Howell Contractors bid included a start date of Sept. 1, which was nearly 25% below the engineer’s estimate and will result in the construction of 2.35 miles of eight-inch water line, Franxman said.
Boone County is in the second phase of its Rural Water Expansion program, with funding for the projects stemming from American Rescue Plan Act allocations, Boone County Administrator Matthew Webster said.
“Howell Contractors has completed multiple projects for the Boone County Water District and recently completed the first phase of the Rural Water Expansion program in the Twin Lakes area ahead of schedule,” Franxman said.
If the process unfolds how it did during the Twin Lakes project, by sometime in January, the water line should be tested, active and ready to start accepting applications for tie-in, Franxman said.
A tie-in is a connection between a new water main and an existing water main that is no longer than one joint of pipe, officials said.
“It’s exciting that they not only do the projects and they’re coming in with great bids, but getting them done ahead of schedule is extremely important,” Boone County Judge/Executive Gary W. Moore said.
