Newport has new faces on two of its city boards.

The Newport Commission appointed Ed Davis and Stephanie Steffen to the board of adjustments and Glen Taylor to the code board.

The board of adjustments is made up of five members serving two-year terms. The code enforcement board comprises five members and two alternate members serving two-year terms. The members are appointed by the mayor and approved by the commission.

The board of adjustments hears and decides applications for conditional use permits and variances. Code Enforcement enforces adopted building codes, property maintenance codes, and city ordinances.

Newport Commissioner Ken Rechtin encouraged those interested to apply for a board appointment.

“The manager also tells me we’ve gotten a great flood of new applicants for these boards,” Rechtin said. “And that’s a wonderful thing, too. You can go to our website; you can look up appointment board applications, fill out that application, and get in line to serve on these boards.”
