Pick-your-own farms offer individuals and families an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and connect with the local farming community. Whether it’s picking flowers, lavender, blueberries, each farm offers a chance to create a unique experience.
With Fourth of July weekend officially upon us, LINK nky found five pick-your-own farms in Northern Kentucky people can check out this holiday season.
Blackberry Ridge Flower Farm
Ryland Heights
In 2016, Kari Mulderink and her husband purchased seven acres of land on a ridge in Ryland Heights. Five years later, the couple started Blackberry Ridge Flower Farm, a pick-your-own flower farm where customers can enjoy beautiful scenery, spend time outdoors and take in different aromas.
The Lavender Field
California
Located around 20 minutes south of downtown Covington, The Lavender Field is a mother-daughter run pick-your-own farm with over 500 lavender plants. Due to it being a hobby farm, it’s only in operation during June and July, making it a great recreational option for this holiday weekend.
Thistlehair Farm
Union
This family run, pick-your-own farm in Boone County uses regenerative and sustainable practices to grow their produce. Some of their picking options include up to 100 varieties of heirloom tomatoes, heirloom peppers and culinary herb plants. This Sunday, from 8 a.m. until noon is their next ‘u-pick’ day.
Brightstar Acres
DeMossville
This ‘u-pick’ blueberry farm in southern Kenton County offers customers a chance to pick blueberries for up to $4/lb. The farm provides picking pails. Customers can pay with either cash or check. Their 2023 season officially starts on Saturday, July 1, lasting from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.
McGlasson Farms
Hebron
Located along scenic Route 8 in Hebron, this farm has been family owned and operated for six generations. Open from July to November, customers have ample opportunities to pick their own fruits and vegetables including strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, corn, kale and eggplants among others. It even has an apple orchard.
