Bellevue is paying homage to a popular children’s book with a new truck they purchased to help with beautification efforts in the city.
“‘Beep’ said the Little Blue Truck” are familiar words to many parents and children who spent time reading the popular Little Blue Truck book series by author Alice Schertle.
The city purchased the vehicle for $9,700 to assist efforts of volunteers who work on beautification projects throughout the city.
Prior to the purchase of the vehicle, Bellevue Neighborhood Association volunteers physically hauled items like water, plants, and gardening equipment to various locations throughout the city. The naming and declaration was made in dedication to the book series, which champions friendliness and teamwork as its message, as well as to the volunteers themselves.
“The city and its citizens owe a debt of gratitude to the many volunteers who plant and maintain flowers and plants in the city for the beautification of the city,” said Mayor Charlie Cleves.
The resolution officially naming the truck the “Little Blue Truck” was approved unanimously by the mayor and city council. Residents and visitors to the city are encouraged to take photos of Bellevue’s Little Blue Truck and share them in social media.
