Taylor Mill police are searching for a man who posed as a delivery person and robbed a family’s home on Dec. 26.

In a release, police said their preliminary investigation determined a man dressed as a delivery person pulled into the driveway of a home in the 5400 block of Taylor Mill Road at around 12:40 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, and carried a cardboard box and paperwork to the front door.

When he rang the doorbell, police said the man living at the home had a conversation with the fake delivery person, who then showed a gun and told the man to get back into his home. The fake delivery person then ordered the man to lie down on the floor before finding a woman and her dog inside the bathroom.

The fake delivery person is accused of then firing one shot inside the bathroom and ordering the woman to also go to the living room.

There, he allegedly demanded money from the residents, who complied. He then walked out of the home and drove away.

Connie Birkley lives across the street from the home where the robbery took place. She told WCPO she spoke to the woman who lives in the home just hours after the robbery happened.

“She said he tied her husband up, and tied her. I don’t know how, but she said something about her legs, so he must have tied her hands, feet, whatever. And only got $100,” said Birkley. “She said, several times, ‘He had a gun to my head.’ And that’s, that’s pretty scary.”

WCPO asked Birkley how she felt about this happening just steps away from her front door.

“I was scared to death,” said Birkley. “I didn’t have anyone here. And I know now that I will never open the door for anyone until I know who it is.”

Police said that by the time they arrived, the man had already gone southbound on Taylor Mill Road and was out of the area.

Officers were able to get a description of both the man and the vehicle he drove. He is described as a Black man between 40 and 50 years old with dark hair that is gray along the temples, and facial hair that also features some gray. He was wearing a safety vest over dark clothing, dark shoes and had “a strong amount of aftershave.”

He was driving a white transit van with a sloped hood and dark-tinted windows. It was missing its left hubcap.

Anyone who may have received a scheduled or unscheduled package delivery near that time on Dec. 26 is asked to contact police, as well as anyone who may have witnessed the man or his vehicle in the area.

Police asked people and businesses who may have received a package on Saturday between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to contact them if they live at the following locations:

  • Wolf Road
  • Saint Matthew’s Circle
  • Ridgeway Drive
  • Forest Lane
  • Daffodil Drive
  • Janet Drive
  • Lone Oak Drive
  • Sunset Drive

WCPO spoke with Deborah and Jim Chalk on Saint Matthew’s Circle. Deborah said the idea that her home could have been targeted left her unsettled.

“Fear,” she said. “We’ve had a lot of delivery vehicles on this street, and I’ve seen one familiar to the white one you showed me.”
