Covington Schools internal reading, English language assessments show uneven progress
Covington Independent Public Schools has seen gradual improvement in reading assessments for grades K-6, although progress among 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students is comparatively slow. The district also saw a slight decline in the number of students exiting the English language learning program, although this may be due to influx of newcomers with little education.

The Covington Independent Public Schools Board of Education unanimously approved a 4% salary increase for all full time staff, along with an increase based on the amount of time the workers had been with the district, which will take effect at the beginning of next school year.
