Covington Independent Public Schools has approved the addition of a new English language teacher position to accommodate the district’s growing population of English language learners, and is planning for how to deal with the district’s English language learner population.

Covington Schools internal reading, English language assessments show uneven progress
Covington Independent Public Schools has seen gradual improvement in reading assessments for grades K-6, although progress among 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students is comparatively slow. The district also saw a slight decline in the number of students exiting the English language learning program, although this may be due to influx of newcomers with little education.
