Tuesday’s storms wiped out high school regional track meets in Louisville, Somerset, Prestonsburg and Murray.
The weather didn’t affect Bishop Brossart at the Class A, Region 4 meet at Mustang Athletic Complex. The Mustang girls defeated St. Henry, 176-84, while the boys beat Beechwood, 150-95.
Brossart girls coach Dave Schuh will complete his 46th season at the state meet May 29 at the University of Kentucky. He won’t compare this year’s group to past teams, but he said 2025’s Mustangs are unique.
“We have someone good in every event, really,” Schuh said. “We have people that can run every single event, including field events. Field events have really been our strength this year, and we have depth in the field events.”
Brossart claimed three field event wins: Ava Walters in the discus (124-feet), Peyton Trauth in the long jump (16-1 ¼ ), and Anna Curtsinger in the pole vault (9-6) over teammate Maria Everett.

And the Mustang runners? Possibly stronger.
Start with the 4×800 relay. Larah Callahan, Alis Thomas, Trauth and Tessa Hafer beat Newport Central Catholic by nearly 15 seconds.
Continue with the 4×200 – Callahan, Lexi Braun, Hadley Eviston and Mackinley Scott beat Walton-Verona by less than a second. In the 4×100, Zoey Woosley, Eviston, Kaitlyn Kramer and Trauth edged Walton-Verona by 16-hundredths of a second.
And finish with the 4×400 – Braun, Callahan, Scott and Trauth beat NewCath by nearly four seconds.
Woosley and Kramer also finished 1-2 in the 100-meter hurdles.
Callahan set two school records, the 4×800 (9:49.92) and the 800 (2:20.80, good for second behind Beechwood’s Lily Parke).
“I think the open (800) means a lot more to me because I did it individually on my own, and I’ve been working really hard at it all season to get that,” Callahan said.

Beechwood – or more accurately Parke – dominated the distance events. Parke won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200.
“I train really hard, so racing is a little easier,” Parke said.
The Tigers were tops in sprints, too – Caroline Nordman won the 200 and 400.
St. Henry claimed three wins – Stella Flick in the 300 hurdles, Lizzie Casey in the triple jump and Hayden Harlan in high jump. Holy Cross’ Morgan McDonald won the 100-meter dash.
Beechwood’s girls finished third with 80 points, NewCath was fourth with 70, and Walton-Verona was fifth with 66.
Boys

Brossart coach Chris Davis was justifiably proud.
“We kind of do everything here toward the regional meet because (NewCath) is so good and Beechwood’s so good and (Villa Madonna) has some great athletes,” Davis said. “We didn’t really back down from any spot.”
Brossart’s three wins came in field events – Joe Schroeder in shot put, Tripp Wilson in triple jump and Alex Combs in high jump. Combs was hoping to clear 6 feet-¼.

“I did get 5-10 on my first attempt, and it looked (like) my 5-10 was over the bar by a few inches,” Combs said. “And my last attempt on 6 foot and a quarter was my best one, but I just jumped from too far out.”
Walton-Verona grabbed two distance wins, Grayson Dye won the 3,200 and Wyatt Shearer in the 800.
Villa Madonna’s win in the 4×800 was the school’s first relay win. Mark Antrobus, Ethan Barker, Brendan Ramdass and Ethan Martin beat Williamstown by nearly 11 seconds.
“(I) was a little bit tired at the end, but that’s expected,” Martin said. “As a 4×800, it means a lot. We’ve been putting in a lot of effort – off-season, in season.”
Antrobus and Brossart’s Griffin Hill continued a rivalry in the 1,600. Antrobus pulled away in the final 200 meters and won by nearly four seconds – but it wasn’t that easy.
“Not only could I feel him, I could see a shadow the whole time,” Antrobus said.
Tuesday was NewCath senior Charlie Ford’s penultimate meet. He did well – first in the 100 (11.21), first in the 200 (22.18), first in the long jump (20-7 ¾) and second in the high jump (5-10).
Ford said it’s crossed his mind the end of competitive track (he plans to study finance at the University of Kentucky) is near.
“You know, it’s kind of sad, but at the same time, I put in the work, and I know I can go out there and perform well. I think I’m happy with what I’ve done with my high school career.”

Bellevue senior Marcelo Herald, meanwhile, wants to run in college – he’s considering walking on at Bellarmine University. Tuesday, he won the 110 hurdles (14.99) and the 300 (41.29).
NewCath took third with 76 points, Villa Madonna was fourth with 60, and Walton-Verona was fifth with 45.
The Class 3A, Region 5 meet is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Scott High School in Taylor Mill. According to ky.milesplit.com, the Class 2A, Region 4 meet scheduled for Wednesday at Bourbon County was postponed.
