LINK nky is once again excited to partner with OrthoCincy Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine and announce the highly popular Team of the Week, Team of the Season and Team of the Year awards!

Nominations and Voting

Each week, a call for Team of the Week nominations will be announced via LINK nky’s online and printed editions with links shared on all of LINK nky social media platforms. The inclusive nomination and selection process will highlight the team’s achievements from the prior week with a supported photo of the team to represent them.

Voting instructions along with each nominated team’s accomplishment(s) will be published online every Monday and posted in that week’s print edition. A link will be shared via social media as well. The voting process is open to the public through Friday at noon each week, and the newest TOTW will be announced with a featured article on Friday and featured in the following week’s print edition.

Participants can vote multiple times a day and can vote every day leading up to the close of voting. All are encouraged to share voting links to help promote the team of their choice.

Team of the Season and Team of the Year

Again this year, the program will include Team of the Season (TOTS) and Team of the Year (TOTY) awards. Sports seasons are considered fall, winter and spring for the purpose of this awards program. At the conclusion of each sports season, an overall TOTS winner will be chosen from all previous TOTW winners for that season. Their school will also receive a $500 scholarship to be presented to the athlete of their choice at the end of the school year.

Finally, the program culminates by selecting one TOTY from the three TOTS award winners. Online and print articles will again be published, a large commemorative plaque will be presented and the school will receive an additional $500 scholarship to be presented to the athlete of their choice at the end of the school year.

The call for nominations, voting and winning announcement for each will follow the same format as the TOTW.

OrthoCincy Orthopeadics and Sports Medicine and LINK nky are again proud to partner and celebrate the remarkable achievements of our local high school athletes and teams!

RYLE BOYS BASKETBALL

Ryle is one of the hottest teams around right now. Winners of eight straight, the Raiders took care of business last week with wins over Oldham County and Conner.

The latter earned them the No. 1 seed for the 33rd District tournament as they improved to 3-0 in district play and 12-6 overall.

They’ve been led by the trio of Holden Smith, AJ Davis and Anthony Coppola while Grace Nsuti has provided an inside presence.

They’ll look to make it nine in a row with a scheduled game on Tuesday at home against Simon Kenton.

SCOTT BOYS BASKETBALL

The Eagles are playing well, winners of three straight as they’ve improved to 11-7 on the year.

They defeated Harrison County and Augusta last week to pick up a pair of 10th Region victories. Freshman transfer Benjamin Brown has hit the ground running since joining the team while Jordan Clemons, Jayden Dodd, Ty Cook, Johnie Boyd and Alexander Casnellie have provided a balanced scoring punch.

The Eagles will look to make it four in a row in a scheduled game at St. Henry on Tuesday.

NEWPORT CENTRAL CATHOLIC GIRLS BASKETBALL

After dropping the 9th Region All “A” championship to Holy Cross, NewCath has rebounded nicely with wins in five of their last six games, including all three last week.

The current three-game winning streak has them 13-6 on the year, not bad for a team that lost four of its five starters from last season due to graduation. Juniors Kendall Thompson and Brooklyn Cole have led the way, averaging double figures in scoring.

They’ll aim for a fourth straight victory on Thursday at home against Ludlow.

COOPER ARCHERY

Cooper continues to impress this season as they won their fourth tournament on the season with a win at the Summit View Royal Tournament with a score of 3,349, edging out Ryle by eight points.

Receiving medals were Kayson Stone (289, third place boys), Brayden Nevels (287, fifth place boys) and Emerson Caravona (280, fourth place girls).

Highlands again swept all three team titles at the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference swim and dive meet, winning the boys, girls and overall championships. The boys posted 550 points.

The Highlands girls were even more commanding, scoring 616. In the combined standings, Highlands piled up 1,166 points. Highlands and Simon Kenton finished 1-2 in the overall D-1 standings.

Other honorees included Highlands’ Stella Kendon, the Division I Girls Competitor of the Meet, and teammate Chanith Abeysinghe, the D‑1 Boys Competitor of the Meet.

Highlands’ roster produced some standout individual moments. But the Bluebirds won the same way they’ve won all season—with depth, balance and a long list of contributors.

Among the Highlands girls individual event winners were Kendon in the 200-yard medley, Ella Kate Reynolds in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle races, Vivian Winkler in the 50-yard freestyle and Margaret Meyers in the 100-yard backstroke. Reynolds was runner-up to Kendon in the girls power points race.

Bluebirds boys winners included Abeysinghe in the 100-yard freestyle and Max Taylor in the 100-yard butterfly. Elliot Meyers won the 500-yard freestyle.

Highlands also won a handful of relay races with help from Kendon and Abeysinghe.

Highlands’ Addie Tinkler was girls runner-up with 362.50 in the 1-meter diving competition.
