Newport Central Catholic High School Head Football Coach Stephen Lickert met with the team on Tuesday and informed them that he was resigning as head football coach; a decision that would provide more time with his family and allow him to continue his career as a school administrator.
Coach Lickert said, “Serving as Head Football Coach at Newport Central Catholic for the past eight years has been one of the greatest honors of my career. NewCath’s pillars of faith, family, academic excellence, character and stewardship are truly lived every day, and coaching here has always been about far more than wins and losses. I am deeply grateful for the support of our administration, staff, families and most importantly, our players. I am proud of what we accomplished together and even more proud of the young men they continue to become.”
Coach Lickert went on to say, “Thank you for allowing me to be part of this incredible tradition. I look forward to continuing to support the football program and watching our guys thrive in what will soon be the best football venue in the state,” referring to the school’s on-campus Ciafardini Family Athletic Complex that is slated for completion this Spring.
Athletic Director Jeff Schulkens said, “We are grateful to Coach Lickert for his eight years of dedication to our student-athletes and their development to become outstanding representatives of NCC. We wish Coach Lickert all the best in his career in school administration.”
Newport Central Catholic is currently accepting applications for the vacant Head Football Coaching position. Interested candidates may send resumes and references to NCC Athletic Director Jeff Schulkens at jschulkens@ncchs.com.
