Local residents can now support emergency funding for students at Gateway and other Kentucky community and technical colleges by purchasing a new Kentucky Community and Technical College System, or KCTCS, license plate when renewing their vehicle registration.
“With every registration, $10 goes directly to our student emergency funds, helping remove non-academic barriers and keeping our students enrolled and on track to earn their credentials,” said Ryan Quarles, KCTCS president, in a press release.
KCTCS emergency funding helps students surmount barriers related to housing, food, transportation, childcare, academic supplies, utilities and medical bills. KCTCS will need to garner at least 500 registrations a year in order to keep the license plate program sustainable. People can also donate directly to KCTCS and forego getting a specialty plate by consulting with their local clerk when registering their vehicle.
“Our hope is that Kentucky residents will help spread the word to their friends, family, and colleagues so we can continue supporting students across the commonwealth,” Quarles added.
