The Covington Board of Commissioners voted on Tuesday to approve the receipt of $1 million in state funding for creating infrastructure to ease access to the city during the Brent Spence Project.

“We might want to think about these as gateways into the city corridors that we want to enhance that might be affected,” City Manager Sharmili Reddy told the Board of Commissioners Feb. 17.

The money itself comes from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet was approved the same night as a $6 million deal with the cabinet for anti-flooding infrastructure in Peaselburg; the two funding measures were contained in the same agreement.

The city has leeway in how it spends the money, and there has been no public discussion yet on plans for specific projects. The agreement remains in effect for seven years, and the money will be paid to the city on a reimbursement basis.
