The application window for the Better Business Bureau’s Students of Integrity scholarship opened this week.

The contest, which asks local seniors to write an essay about a particular topic in ethics, will see six high school seniors in the Better Business Bureau of Cincinnati’s service area, which includes Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties, take home $5,000 each to fund their futures in higher education.

“It is so important that our young people entering the workforce have a solid grounding in ethical decision making,” said Jocile Erlich, president and CEO of BBB Cincinnati, in a press release. “It is important for them as human beings, and for the businesses they ultimately find themselves working for.”

To participate, students must respond to an essay prompt that poses an ethical quandary or asks them to explore a topic. “This year’s essay prompt explores ‘hustle culture’ and the ethical implications of taking shortcuts when students are under pressure,” according to the contest’s announcement.

The scholarship judges do not take into account grades or extracurricular activities, and the prize money can be used towards any accredited post-secondary institution, including vocational programs.
