Charles “Charlie” Walton was a beloved Boone County resident who died Aug. 25 at age 78. Members of his family attended the Sept. 30 Boone County Fiscal Court meeting to receive state and county proclamations commemorating his contributions as a teacher, school administrator and elected official.
“Recently, we lost a pillar of our community,” said Judge/Executive in emotional remarks introducing Rep. T.J. Roberts. “Tonight we’re going to be honoring him with a proclamation and a legislative citation.”

Walton was a Dayton, Kentucky, native who was principal of Florence Elementary School from 1993 until his retirement in 2005. Elected to the Boone County Fiscal Court in 2011, Walton served until 2018.

Elected in 2024 to fill the seat Walton held between 1993 and 2005, Roberts remembered Walton as a respected public servant who touched many lives during his long career in public service.
Walton, said Roberts, reading from the proclamation, “earned a stellar reputation as the voice of Boone County’s conservative community … Charlie Walton will be deeply missed by all those whose lives were touched by his presence.”
Moore spoke after Roberts read the legislature’s proclamation into the record. “What I also have is a proclamation recognizing Commissioner Charlie Walton not only for his county service but also for his legislative service,” Moore said.
Instead of reading Boone County’s proclamation, Moore focused on his personal memories of Walton.
“I attended Florence Baptist Church for many years and still am a member there with the Walton family and it always stands out to me that Charlie was a pillar of the community,” Moore said.

Moore invited Walton’s grandson Graham Hahn and widow Laurie Walton to join him in front of the dais to receive the proclamations and to have their photos taken with Roberts and Boone County commissioners.
