U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie held a rally Wednesday night at the historic courthouse in Burlington, joined by Sen. Rand Paul, who called Northern Kentucky a ‘bastion of conservatism’ in the state.

The Massie for Congress Liberty Rally was preceded by a less formal event in Dry Ridge where constituents could gather and have coffee with the legislators. The evening’s event, on the other hand, included a dinner for attendees and live music from Owensboro-based band The Bridge Boys.
Cincinnati-based talk radio host Brian Thomas emceed the event, and Boone County Judge/Executive Gary Moore led the attendees in prayer.
Other attendees included Boone County Commissioner Chet Hand (who’s challenging Moore for the judge’s/executive seat), Kentucky Rep. Marianne Proctor, Kentucky Rep. TJ Roberts, Boone County Circuit Court Judge Judge Richard Brueggemann, Kentucky Rep. Mark Hart, Kentucky Rep. Steve Doan and Kentucky Rep. Savannah Maddox, among others.
Doan, Proctor, Maddox, Roberts and Hart all spoke at the event.
“There is a vacuum of principles in politics,” said Hart, which stood in contrast to his characterization of Paul and Massie.
The speakers were complimentary of both Paul and Massie, characterizing them as principled conservatives in the face of criticism.
Maddox characterized both Paul and Massie as the “most conservative” legislators in the nation, a comment that elicited applause from the crowd. Paul for his own part called Northern Kentucky a “bastion of conservationism” against liberal interests in Lexington and Louisville.

54-year-old Massie has occupied the House’s 4th congressional district, which includes Northern Kentucky, since 2012. He’s proven to have staying power among the electorate, carrying wide margins to victory in every election since that year.
The MAGA KY super PAC was launched in June to fund efforts to unseat Massie. It has raised $2 million as of the end of July, according to federal records. $1 million has come from Paul Elliot Singer, a hedge fund manager. $250,000 has come from John Alfred Paulson, another hedge fund manger.
The rest has come from a PAC called the Preserve America PAC, which is primarily funded by Miriam Adelson, the widow of the late Sheldon Adelson, a casino mogul and political donor who provided the largest single donation to Trump during his 2016 campaign.
In spite of this no one has officially stepped forward to challenge Massie.
“I would hate to be that person,” Paul said.
In order to successfully unseat him, Massie said, his opponents would have “convince everyone I’m not conservative.”
