Ludlow Mayor Chris Wright resigned Wednesday night in an open letter on Facebook, citing issues with his health.
“This has been an extremely difficult decision,” Wright says in his letter. “I have been doing my best to battle some health issues for the last several months.”
Wright said he expects to make a full recovery, but that he needs someone else to finish out his term.
As for who will take his place, city council has 30 days to appoint someone. If they fail to do so, it’ll be up to the governor. The appointee’s term will be over at the end of 2026.
Wright told LINK nky that he had not intended to run for re-election, anyway.
“Ludlow deserves someone that can give them 100% of his or her attention, and it has become undeniable to me that I need to focus on my health, my family and my passion for educating students and athletes,” Wright says in his letter.
Wright concludes his letter by thanking “everyone for their understanding” and expressing optimism for the future of the city’s governance.
