Sam Shelton is taking over as Bellevue’s new assistant to the city administrator.

City Administrator Frank Warnock made the announcement and introduced Shelton at the Bellevue City Council meeting last week. He will take over the position from Pierce Turner, who is moving on to take a position in Erlanger.

Known for his signature bow ties and enthusiasm for Northern Kentucky, Shelton is a familiar face to many in the community. A Fort Thomas native and Highlands High graduate, Shelton joined the Fort Thomas city government soon after high school. He currently serves as the city’s administrative assistant.

“Sam has agreed to come on board with the city,” said Warnock. “I’m very excited. He checks a lot of the boxes that we need, and I think he’ll be a good fit here. Welcome, Sam.”

Shelton holds a bachelor’s degree in public relations and a master’s in public administration from Northern Kentucky University. At the city of Fort Thomas, he has worked on a variety of projects including code enforcement, marketing/public relations, economic development and communications.

“This will be my seventh year with Fort Thomas,” Shelton said. “I started back in 2019, just in an intern position, and gradually moved my way up to the administrative assistant position for the city. So I’ve done multiple projects through Fort Thomas over the years, recently, with our branding push, our new, renovated city building, multiple projects.”

Shelton said that he has worked closest with the economic development and events departments and is “no stranger to putting on amazing events for our communities.”

“I look forward to bringing a lot of the knowledge that I have gained from there, along with my master’s in public administration from NKU, to the city of Bellevue,” said Shelton.

Warnock noted there will be a short transition period as Shelton moves into the position. He does not have an official start date as he wants to finish up some projects in Fort Thomas.
