As people gathered in cities across the country for what has been called the “No Kings” protests, hundreds in Northern Kentucky joined the wave of national demonstrations.
Campbell County resident Brandon Long attended the protest on June 14 in Covington, which was held at the base of the Roebling Suspension Bridge.

According to the Associated Press, hundreds of cities nationwide are participating in the “No Kings” protests. The protests follow several days of nationwide demonstrations against federal immigration raids. The protests coincide with a military parade in Washington, D.C., commemorating the 250th birthday of the U.S. Army, which is also President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday.
Long said there were 500 or so people, and many people from the Juneteenth celebration joined in on the protest.

“There were people from all sides of the political spectrum,” Long told LINK nky. “I was standing next to a veteran who told me, ‘This is not why I fought for this country.'”
He said it was a peaceful and positive protest.
“It was wonderful to see the community come together to say together that this is our republic, and we won’t stand for this,” Long said.
