The Edgewood Police Department is encouraging local residents to properly secure their guns, especially in vehicles, after a recent theft of a firearm from an unlocked car.

In a social media announcement that the department encouraged people to share, the police stated that the “department is not getting calls where doors were pried open, windows busted, locks manipulated, or fobs cloned. The doors are unlocked.

“If you have a firearm please be responsible, and secure it. Somebody who steals from others is now armed and stealing from others.”

The announcement concludes, “Edgewood is targeted by thieves because we are a great source of valuable, unsecured items. Please secure your guns and lock your vehicle doors.
