Walton City Council approved an ordinance laying out new guidelines for short-term rentals, such as Airbnb or Vrbo rentals, at their meeting Tuesday.

Under the new policy, short-term rental owners must pay the city a $500 annual fee to operate their rental—up from the original $15 fee. The penalty for violating city policies on short-term rentals is increased from $25 to $100 per violation.

Further, council lowered the number of short-term rentals allowed per city street from four to two, and the number allowed per subdivision from 10 to six. Only 20 short-term rentals are allowed in the entire city. Walton is currently host to 18 short-term rentals.
