Candidate for: Kenton County Constable District 2

Party: Republican

Status: Challenger

Thomas Turner is a candidate for Kenton County Constable in District 2. He will face Republican incumbent Paul Woodward in the upcoming May primary.

There are no Democratic candidates for District 2, so whoever wins the May primary will run unopposed in November.

Constables serve as elected peace officers, a position that dates back to the 1850 Kentucky Constitution. They can make arrests, execute warrants, issue subpoenas and other civil process in criminal, penal and civil cases.

Turner worked in hospital security for most of his career. He was also a veteran of the Navy and Air Force and worked as part of the auxiliary teams, which are often comprised of volunteers, for the police departments of both Covington andTaylor Mill. He has run for constable before but lost at the ballot box.

Constables are somewhat peculiar as elected offices, but Turner said he hoped to make the role more public-facing and more integrated into community life.

“People deserve a constable who’s visible, dependable, committed to the community, and I truly believe that,” Turner said.

As far as local issues, he pointed to the possible industrial development of the southern county as one thing he was not in favor of.

“Southern Kenton County is, I believe, is facing some changes,” Turner said. “They want to put industrial buildings and stuff in the southern County, which I’m not in favor of. I’d like to work on that.”
