Steve Elkins said on parkhillsvoter.com that he is seeking reelection to Park Hills City Council to continue focusing on the city’s finances, infrastructure and economic development.

Elkins has served on council for more than 10 years and has lived in Park Hills with his wife for 24 years, where they raised their six children.

Elkins faces Marty Boyer, Joe Brandner, Lee Burkett, Greg Claypole, Joe Daugherty, Dan Lutz, Pamela Spoor, Carl Trinkle and Dan Warner in the Nov. 3 general election.

“I am level headed and logical in how I think about the issues that face our city and citizens,” Elkins said on the campaign website. “I believe in treating everyone with respect, regardless of any differences in our stance on a topic.”

Elkins said that during his time on council, Park Hills has gone from having a budget near bankruptcy to maintaining more than $1 million in reserves. He also pointed to improvements to the city’s streets and sidewalks, including the addition of new sidewalks.

Elkins said maintaining the city’s financial position remains a priority because Park Hills has a small tax base that relies heavily on residents. He also wants the city to find ways to attract additional businesses.

Elkins has worked in senior management for a global logistics and aviation company for more than 35 years. He said his responsibilities have included managing employees, overseeing budgets exceeding $10 million and handling equipment procurement and third-party contracts.

Elkins earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Northern Kentucky University and has served on the St. Agnes Parish Council and Park Hills Civic Association.

If reelected, Elkins said he wants to continue the city’s current direction while protecting its finances, infrastructure and public safety.
