He graduated from Lloyd High School and Northern Kentucky University, where he earned degrees in economics and business administration, and later obtained his law degree from NKU’s Salmon P. Chase College of Law.

Doan was first elected to the Kentucky General Assembly in 2022 after defeating incumbent Rep. Adam Koenig in the May primary. He was subsequently reelected in 2024.

Prior to joining the state legislature, Doan was appointed to the Erlanger City Council in 2021 to complete the term of the late council member Kathy Cahill following her passing.

Outside of politics, Doan operates a private law practice in Erlanger that focuses on criminal, family, personal injury and real estate law, among other areas.

Prior to his time in the legislative branch, Doan worked in the executive branch, having been appointed by former Republican Gov. Matt Bevin as general counsel for the Kentucky Office of Agricultural Policy. In that role, he oversaw major state-funded initiatives, including grant and loan programs.

During his time in the state legislature, Doan has served on the committees for postsecondary education, primary and secondary education, local government, and family and children’s issues. Additionally, Doan is a member of the Northern Kentucky Caucus and the Pro-Life Caucus.

Doan’s voting record aligns with his self-described conservative priorities, including supporting tax cuts, backing small businesses, and advocating for policies related to public safety and child welfare.
