Phyllis Yeager said she is running for Southgate City Council to support the city’s neighborhoods, strengthen local services and help guide the community’s continued growth.

Yeager has lived in Southgate for 30 years and raised two sons there with her husband. She said those connections to the community motivated her to seek a seat on council.

Yeager faces Alec Angel, Jackson Curry, Elizabeth Hartman, Jason Lanham, Aileen R. Okura, Daniel J. Speier and Tommy Whitehead in the Nov. 3 election.

“My goal is simple: to serve our community with a genuine desire to help drive positive initiatives forward,” Yeager said.

Yeager said her professional background in human resources and business leadership has given her experience in strategic planning, interpreting policies, communication and collaborative problem-solving.

She said she wants to bring those skills to city council while listening to different viewpoints and approaching issues with a balanced perspective.

If elected, Yeager said her first priority would be listening directly to Southgate residents to better understand their concerns and priorities.

Yeager said she wants to use that input to make practical and collaborative decisions that reflect the community’s needs.
