Mark Wurtenberger returned to his hometown of Crescent Springs in 2020 after a career that took him across the country. Two years later, he won a seat on the city council.

Wurtenberger grew up in Crescent Springs before living in Chicago, Detroit, San Diego, New York and Charlotte. A certified public accountant, he has brought that financial background into his work at City Hall.

Wurtenberger was first elected to council in 2022 and won another term in 2024. He has since served as chairman of the city’s Finance Committee.

When he first ran for office, Wurtenberger told LINK nky that his priorities included financial transparency and making it easier for residents to understand how the city spends taxpayer dollars. He also stressed long-term financial planning and preparing for expenses before they become problems for the city.

Development and the traffic that comes with it have also figured prominently during his time on council. Wurtenberger has previously raised concerns about congestion as new housing is built in Crescent Springs and neighboring Villa Hills.

Wurtenberger has also been involved in decisions surrounding the city’s public safety and infrastructure needs. In March 2026, he supported providing an additional $120,000 to the Crescent Springs-Villa Hills Fire Department and later voted to delay proposed one-way street changes in Old Crescent Springs while the city gathered additional information.

LINK nky contacted Wurtenberger with questions about his background, priorities and reasons for seeking office but did not receive a response before publication.
