Jeff Smith is one of two candidates running for the mayoral seat of Crescent Springs. He will face Brian Barklay at the ballot box in November. Incumbent Mayor Mike Daugherty is not running for election this year.
Smith is currently a member of the Crescent Springs City Council, where he has frequently advocated for a more controlled approach to development and lower taxes. He formerly worked as a police officer and public works professional. He said that his motivations for running were “to improve the public services offered to the citizens while lowering taxes.”
He also said that he hoped to use the position of mayor if elected to speed up important city projects.
“My plan is to work with the State Hwy. Dept. to remedy traffic conditions on Buttermilk Pike and the surrounding streets,” Smith said. “I will also work to improve the public services offered to our citizens and speed up the improvements to the Old Crescent Springs subdivision.”
He called improving traffic on Buttermilk Pike his “number one priority,” and pitched adjusting “the timing of the traffic signals, as well as work(ing) on re-routing tractor trailer traffic coming through our city from an adjoining city” as possible solutions.
“I will be committed to pursuing grant funding to support road repairs and other essential city projects, minimizing tax liabilities,” Smith said. “I will also continue supporting our police, fire and public works departments, keeping our community safe, secure and well-informed.”
