Eric Tungate is seeking a seat on Walton City Council in the November general election.

Tungate has decades of experience in fire protection, emergency medical services and technical rescue across Northern Kentucky. He began serving with the Florence Rescue Squad in 1977 and later worked as an EMT and shift supervisor for Shoemaker’s Ambulance Service.

Tungate spent 15 years with the Walton Fire Protection District, where he served as a fire captain, shift captain and public safety inspector. He also held positions with the Point Pleasant and Taylor Mill fire departments before serving as captain of the Glendale Fire Department from 2001 to 2011.

In addition, Tungate served on the Boone County Fire Investigation Team and worked as a rescue technician specializing in trench rescue and structural collapse with Northern Kentucky Technical Rescue.

Walton is Boone County’s southernmost city, sitting along Interstate 71/75 about 20 miles south of Cincinnati. With a population of more than 5,500 people, Walton’s population has doubled over the past 20 years, according to U.S. Census data. As such, the city’s growth has brought development and infrastructure issues to the forefront in recent years.

The current city council includes Matt Brown, Rose Beach, Amy Long, Dan Martin and Sherry Gaskill, with one seat vacant.

Walton voters will elect a mayor and six council members in November. The races are nonpartisan.

LINK nky attempted to make contact with Tungate multiple times, but he did not respond by the time of publication.
