Republican Cathy Flaig has been a fixture on the Boone County Fiscal Court since the late 90s.

Flaig is facing Democrat Debra Waller in the November general election, as she looks to secure her fifth reelection bid.

Flaig, a Hebron resident, was first elected to the Boone County Fiscal Court in 1998, becoming the first Republican woman ever elected to countywide office. She won reelection in 2002 and 2006, before leaving the commission to run for Boone County judge/executive in 2010, ultimately losing the Republican primary to Gary Moore. Flaig returned to the fiscal court in 2014, being reelected twice in 2018 and 2022.

She and her husband, Bob, have jointly operated Flaig Welding Company Inc. for over 45 years. Prior to holding elected office, Flaig was involved with organizations including the local Parent Teacher Association, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Hebron Lions Club.

Flaig has been an influential figure in Boone County Republican politics for decades, both as an elected official and local party organizer. She helped organize the Northern Kentucky Tea Party, later serving as the organization’s president.

Throughout her political career, Flaig has championed conservative priorities such as fiscal responsibility, lower taxes and limited government. More recently, she has focused on expanding water and broadband access in rural Boone County, managing growth and addressing traffic and infrastructure needs.

As Boone County continues to grow, development and infrastructure have become increasingly prominent issues before the fiscal court. Flaig has raised concerns about the effects of development on surrounding property owners, including noise, lighting and adequate buffering.
