A Boone County Conservation District supervisor has announced her candidacy for the county’s fiscal court, according to the Kentucky Secretary of State’s website.
On Jan. 5, Debra Waller filed to run for the Boone County Fiscal Court as a Democrat in the county’s 1st district, which encompasses the areas around Hebron, Burlington and Belleview. She will compete against longtime Republican Commissioner Cathy Flaig.
Waller, a native of Boone County, has been involved with the Conservation District for over 20 years, serving in a variety of roles.
In the county’s 2nd district, former state senator John Schickel, a Republican, will compete against Democrat Lianna Nguyen. Current 2nd District Commissioner Chet Hand is running in the Republican primary for Boone County judge/executive against longtime incumbent Gary Moore, resulting in an open seat on the commission. Incumbent Republican commissioner Jesse Brewer has filed for reelection for the fiscal court’s 3rd district.
Kentucky’s election filing deadline is Friday, Jan. 9.
