Alexandria Councilmember Bob Strong has announced his candidacy for mayor of Alexandria.

Strong is in his second term on the Alexandria City Council. Current Alexandria Mayor Andy Schabell is not seeking reelection; he previously announced his candidacy for Campbell County judge/executive.

In a Facebook post announcing his candidacy, Strong outlined the several positions he has held while on the council. Those include the city’s on-site construction manager for the new city campus, who will work with Schabell, the city administrator and the city’s finance committee to assure the project comes in on time and/or below budget.

He is also chair of the personnel committee.

“We have done some great work within our budget, ensuring our police department, public works department, and our administrative staff continue to receive competitive wages and benefits,” Strong said in the post.

In addition to these responsibilities, he also sits on the finance and the business retention committees.

Strong has yet to officially file for candidacy, according to the Kentucky Secretary of State’s website. Should he officially file, his name will appear on the November 2026 ballot.
