Service for drinking water and services for storm water and waste water control are handled separately in Northern Kentucky.

Drinking water in Kentucky is provided by area water districts. The district you’ll need to connect with depends on where you live. There are two primary water districts in NKY: the Northern Kentucky Water District, which serves Kenton and Campbell Counties, and the Boone County Water District. Kentucky water districts frequently buy and sell water from one another, but you only need to sign up for the primary service provider in your area.

Drinking water infrastructure emergencies, main breaks and boil alerts are all handled by the water districts directly, so be sure to sign up for social media and email alerts to stay informed. You can sign up for alerts and learn how to get connected for water service at the webpages below.

Waste water and storm water control, on the other hand, is largely handled by Sanitation District 1, known more commonly as SD1. Some of the larger cities and parts of the unincorporated counties, however, have their own sewage or storm control services, so you’ll need to check with those jurisdictions directly to make sure you have the right provider.

Be warned: Flooding, both due to excessive rain and sewer system overflows, is an ongoing problem in much of the region, especially in the river cities. Ask your neighbors if flooding is an issue in your area and whether insurance is worth getting. Check out LINK nky’s coverage to learn more about water issues in the region.

You can visit the webpages below to sign up for service, or check with your municipality if your provider doesn’t appear here.
