Rob Begnoche, division supervisor with Edgewood Public Works, was honored this week for taking home first place in the 2025 Kentucky American Public Works Association Skid Steer Contest.

A skid steer is a small earth-moving vehicle commonly used in road work and construction. It’s also known as a Bobcat, after one of the equipment brands that makes the vehicles.
The Kentucky branch of the American Public Works Association, often shortened to APWA, holds annual contests called ROADeos, where public works employees from around the commonwealth meet to showcase equipment and compete in challenges.
Rick Buster, who serves as a Kentucky APWA officer as well as the assistant road supervisor for Campbell County, said Begnoche’s victory was a “pretty big deal” because it will allow him to compete in a regional tournament in Knoxville in March.
“This is the first time that we’re able to send somebody,” Buster told the Edgewood City Council Monday night. “If any of y’all have ever operated any equipment, there’s a point in time that the machine just kind of becomes an extension of your limbs, and for Rob to compete against as many people as he did and come in first place, it’s a great accomplishment.”
