Bellevue is celebrating its 154th birthday in a big way this year, said Mayor Charlie Cleves.

Kids get 100 bags of candy given away to two age groups with 12 chances to win additional prizes in each group. The celebration offers cupcakes, pizza, a bounce house and more.

The Party Source donated the most notable adult giveaway: a bottle of 12-year Van Winkle Reserve. Prizes will be given away throughout the event with the Reserve given away at 7:30 p.m.

At the recent council meeting, the mayor said he did not have a full list, but many area businesses have provided prizes for adults as well.

Local historians Bev and Jim McPhail will also be on hand with some historical artifacts and a short presentation on the history of Bellevue, which was incorporated in 1870.

The festivities are set for Friday, March 15, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Callahan Community Center, 616 Poplar Street in Bellevue.
