The Asbury United Methodist Church in Highland Heights was founded in 1802 and is now displaying pieces of its 220-year history.
The church opened a new history center/library.
Don Vasko, of Dayton, was named church historian.
“Don has been diligently gathering together numerous historical church publications, artifacts, pictures, bibles, song books, children’s ministry items and other documents for the past four years,” said Asbury Pastor Cambron Wright. “He has creatively, painstakingly and lovingly preserved these items and has them on display for church members and visitors to see in the new History Center/Library.”
Work on the library project began last December. A ribbon was cut last week.
The History Center/Library features artifacts like 1864 Pulpit Bibles, historical church pictures and documents from the 1910s through today, including bicentennial and sesquicentennial church celebration photographs, religious artworks and paintings, handmade, wooden collection plates, World War I and World War II era bibles, and more.
Northern Kentucky residents are encouraged to donate any historical church items or documents they may have in their possession to the church for public display. Donations can be made by calling the church office Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at (859) 441-1466.
Asbury United Methodist Church is located at 2916 Alexandria Pike, Highland Heights.
