A business that started because of the pandemic in 2020 has flourished into Angela Cordero’s full-time job.

She runs Bee Sweet Balloon out of her home in Fort Thomas and has done so since she left her job in 2020 due to COVID-19.

“When one door closes, the balloon door opens,” Cordero said. “During the pandemic, I was just at home, and I was doing this for my kids, and a friend asked me to do a few different things for her family members. Some were really sick, and it wasn’t a good time. Like almost the whole family was sick, and she wanted to brighten their days. And she asked me to do something like she said anything feel free. Her nephew’s birthday was coming; she wanted to do something really nice because he was in the ICU for days. And she’s one of my biggest clients, and she’s the one who can kind of pushed me to do all of this, my family, too, and that’s how it started.”

Once Cardero realized she could turn her hobby into a career, she took balloon design classes to learn different techniques.

“It was nothing professional [in the beginning] or anything I took, like a bunch of classes to get better,” Cordero said.

Though balloons have been a popular party decoration for decades, balloon designers seem to have gained popularity since the start of the pandemic. Cardero said she had noticed that as well.

“Oh my god, these past two years, I’ve seen so many balloon artists. Like nowhere local, but they’re around the world, and it’s amazing.” Cardero said. “Everything started with birthday parties, and now it’s like baby showers, weddings, gender reveals. Anything that requires balloons.”

Cardero’s business has grown since 2020 as more people find her social media and see her work; she got Bee Sweet Balloons registered as an LLC. She said she is also interested in finding a space to work out of in the future, hopefully, one in Fort Thomas.

You can find Bee Sweet Balloon on Facebook and Instagram, and you can contact Cardero there for any of your balloon art needs.
