Northern Kentucky students will be able to obtain an associate’s degree at the same time they earn their high school diploma.

The Northern Kentucky University Young Scholars Academy is a program that brings students to the NKU campus for dual credit courses, where they will get early exposure to a collegiate environment from professors partnering with the program.

The NKU Young Scholars program is bringing on eight new school districts in fall 2022, including Covington Independent Schools, Pendleton County Schools, Erlanger-Elsmere Schools, Newport Independent Schools, Bellevue Independent Schools, Dayton Independent Schools, Ludlow Independent Schools and Bracken County Schools.

The program was launched in fall 2020 with 80 high school juniors from Kenton County Schools. With the new growth, nearly 300 students will be involved in the two-year program to earn their associate’s degree or up to 60 credit hours toward the completion of a bachelor’s degree.

On Tuesday, April 19, the Young Scholars program will host a signing to celebrate the expansion of the program. A representative from Gov. Andy Beshear’s office and two students of the NKU program will be present, in addition to other program leaders. The signing is planned for the Eva Farris Reading Room on the second floor of the W. Frank Steely Library on NKU’s campus.
