Construction on a new bridge over Taylor Creek on Waterworks Road (CS 1193) in Newport, Kentucky will begin August 22.
“The new bridge and approaches will be constructed to current standards that will provide better mobility for the motorists who travel this roadway,” said Rob Hans, chief district engineer for KYTC District 6.
The old structure was closed to traffic in February of this year after an inspection detected significant deterioration.

Spokesperson, Nancy Wood, fine tuned some timelines since that report.
“The completion of the bridge for Memorial Parkway over I-471 will be slightly delayed with the estimated re-opening targeted for August 20th but not later than August 25th,” she said.
She said that during the work, crews found more work needed than was originally anticipated to connect the bridge expansion spans.
“Crews found that there was greater damage to the pavement on the bridge approaches and a few yards of approach pavement were removed and replaced and the time needed for that concrete to cure extended the opening,” said Wood.
The cost for the sidewalk construction was $527,000.
