The 34th annual Maifest descends on Mainstrasse Village this weekend with an exciting new feature for kids.
NASA’s Driven to Explore, a multimedia experience showcasing the space agency’s future plans for exploration. Visitors will be able to touch a 3-billion year old moon rock brought to Earth by Apollo 17, the last manned mission to the moon in 1972.
Maifest goes Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (see full schedule below). The festival kicks off with its traditional opening ceremony at the Goose Girl Fountain on Friday at 6 p.m.
Chosen as one of the Top Twenty Events for May 2013 by the Southeast Tourism Society and one of the Top Ten Festivals in Kentucky for the Spring of 2013 by the Kentucky Travel Industry Association, Maifest is based on the German tradition of welcoming the first spring wines.
Maifest is the first major festival of the summer in Greater Cincinnati.
Six city blocks are filled with food, drinks, arts & crafts, performers, and tradition that attract 125,000 families and visitors, the Mainstrasse Village Association estimates.
For the kids, there is Kinderplatz and the midway, full of carnival rides and games. “All You Can Ride” bracelets will be sold each day for $15.
Bands at this year’s festival include local performers like Whisky Tango, the Turkeys, and Ricky Nye spread across four stages.
Other highlights include the Main Street BierGarten and the Street Chalk Drawing Contest (Saturday only).
